Our vision is to provide a curriculum which enables all learners to achieve their maximum potential and is relevant to life in modern society. It provides depth, breadth, challenge, enjoyment and progression at all levels; it promotes choice and allows specialisation; it enables learners to work towards fulfilling their aspirations.

Long Term Priorities

Intent - Cox Green School aims to:

• provide all of our students with a rich and diverse learning experience through a broad and balanced curriculum which is truly comprehensive and accessible to all pupils;

• provide learning opportunities that meet the needs and interests of all learners and inspire them to success in the next stage of their education, training or employment;

• enable students to learn to be successful, to gain useful, transferable skills whilst also acquiring relevant knowledge;

• enables high standards of academic achievement where outcomes empower students to progress to further or Higher Education;

• ensure that all pupils develop a high level of literacy and numeracy required for success in the wider curriculum and in adult life;

• to develop each pupil's knowledge, experience, imagination and intercultural understanding, whilst at the same time fostering an awareness of moral values and a capacity for enjoyment which will enable him or her to be an active participant in a global society;

Implementation - Cox Green Curriculum Plan: 2-week timetable leading a three-year Key Stage 3 and a 2-year Key Stage 4 & 5.

Cox Green School Trustees and staff are delighted to welcome new families and to renew acquaintances with those who have older children in the school. We hope that this will be the start of a long and fruitful partnership, and that our new students will be successful and happy during their time with us.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to families who are applying for their children to join us in September 2024. We hope that you will find the following information and key dates useful:

8^th September 2023	Opening date for secondary school applications. Applications must be made through your own Local Authority.
14^th September 2023	Cox Green School Open Evening (5pm-8pm)
28th September 2023	Open morning 9:00am
10th October 2023	Open morning 9:00am
16^th October 2023	Open morning strictly by appointment
31st October 2023	Deadline to submit on time applications (Including Supplementary Information Forms (SIFs) and social and medical applications)
1st March 2024	National offer day.
15^th March 2024	Deadline to respond to School Place Offer
15th March 2024	Deadline to submit late application To be considered in the second round of allocations commencing 04 April 2023. Applications received after this date will be processed after the second round of applications is complete.
25^th March 2024	Deadline to Submit Appeals to be Heard in First Round These dates are for appeals heard by RBWM Services.
4th April 2024	Second Round of Allocations Further offers will be made from the waiting list as places become available for all applicants.
2nd July 2024	Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Day for students with allocated and confirmed spaces

The deadline for lodging appeals for main round of summer appeals for September 2024 entry is Monday 25^th March 2024 at 5 pm (subject to the announcement of the 2024 national offer days)

Waiting list positions are subject to change. Parents should be aware that if an application is received for a child who has a higher priority under the school’s admissions criteria, it can affect your child’s position on the waiting list.

In Year Transfers

You can apply for an in-year transfer if you would like your child to change schools or join a school outside the normal application round. This normally applies if:

You have moved into the area and do not currently have a school place for your child;
You have moved within the area and want to transfer your child to a closer school;
You have recently moved to the UK from abroad;
You wish to transfer your child from their current school to another school for any other reason;

Adverse Weather Info

Contingency Arrangement for Adverse Weather e.g. Snow

In the event of severe weather conditions, we wanted to familiarise all families with the school's procedures in these situations. Our aim is to remain open wherever possible.

In the event of snow in the morning, please check the school's website or our Facebook and Twitter sites before leaving for school, where we will post any notifications of closure as early as possible.

We will also send a text message to all parents, so please ensure that we have an up to date mobile number. Please note that our switchboard is often overloaded with calls on these days and unable to respond to them all.

Should Bad Weather Begin During a School Day

If it becomes apparent during the day that the weather is deteriorating and getting home might become an issue, we shall do the following:

Keep in touch with transport providers to find out what services are operating.
Notify all parents by text message or phone call and place a message on our website; if the decision is made to close.

Partial Closure

In the event of very heavy snow, the school may open only for a selection of students and/or operate a reduced timetable resulting in a shortened day. In either case, we will endeavour to inform parents via our website and text message as soon as possible.

Where we operate a partial closure, students who must attend do so in the following priority order depending upon the extent of the closure:

Students taking public examinations;
Yr13, Yr11;
Yr10, Yr12.

Alternatively, a slightly reduced timetable may run to allow greater travel time to and from school and to avoid travelling in the dark. On these occasions after school events and activities would be cancelled. The school day would begin at 8.30am and finish at 1:30pm. This adapted day will allow us to keep four out of five lessons, tutor time and one break. Unfortunately, in adverse weather we are unable to guarantee that the school buses will run at the beginning and end of school.

Home Learning

If the decision to close the school is taken the previous day then lessons will be delivered on Microsoft Teams the next day. The normal timetable will be followed, which includes tutor time, but lessons will last just 45 minutes to allow students regular breaks from viewing a screen. All lessons will start at their normal time.

If the decision to close the school is made on the day teaching staff will endeavour to upload work, for their lessons that day, on to Microsoft Teams, but lessons won’t be live. For any subsequent days the school is closed for the same process as that for a planned closure, detailed above, would operate.

We sincerely hope that, just as in the last few years, we can avoid any school closures wherever possible due to the weather. However, as always, it is best to be prepared. We remind families to ensure that students are dressed appropriately with warm coats, hats, gloves and scarves.
